NEW HAVEN, CT — A man was struck and killed by a train Monday evening near the intersection of Hemingway Street and First Avenue, according to The New Haven Register. The 22-year-old victim was reportedly hit by a Shore Line East train around 5:30 p.m. The man took his own life by jumping in front of the train, according to Mayor Justin Elicker. "I was just at the scene of the accident," Elicker said in a statement. "In these deeply challenging times please take a moment to check in with your friends, family and loved ones. I know many of us are really feeling the strain of this pandemic, so it is up to us as a community to check in with each other and be there for one another. I send my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased." The Shore Line East train runs between New Haven and New London. Trains on the line were canceled Monday night "due to police action," The New Haven Register reported.
