Description

From Gateway Community College: September 21, 2020 Are you a Gateway Community College student who has a passion for art? Do you want to win a $500 cash prize? If you have answered YES to at least one of those questions, you should apply to the Gateway "Write on Art" Prize. Don't know anything about British art? Fear not! The Yale Center for British Art is providing a series of videos on British art, how to search their collection online, and how to look at and write on art. These will be uploaded to Gateway's Blackboard portal for students to access. Ask your professor for help locating all these resources before you begin. The center's staff will also be available to help along the way. The Yale Center for British Art will celebrate the writing of Gateway students at a virtual prize awarding ceremony and by sharing the winning entries on their website and via social media. All you need to do is: Pick an object from the the Yale Center for British Art's collection. It can be a painting, sculpture, drawing or even an image printed on a fruit cake… (yes, they have one of those). Write a nonfiction 600-word essay about the artwork. Submissions are not formatted like a term paper. The center is looking for insights and ideas. What do you see? What do you think this artwork is about? Submit your essay for your chance to win! Submission details Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges. Winners will be selected for a $500 first prize, a $200 second prize, and at least two $100 runners-up. The winners in all categories will be celebrated in an online award ceremony and will have a chance to be featured on the Center's website and social media!
