The Christo Voyage kicks off at sunset from River’s Edge Kayak and Canoe. Celebrating Christo: Connecting the People and the Landscape of the Russian River A small sail made of fabric from Christo’s famed 1976 “Running Fence” art installation will lead you downriver for a ceremonial kick off to the Summer 2022 season. 6:00PM – Live music on the beach 7:00PM – Paddle down to Badger Park 7:45PM – Champagne toast 8:00PM – Moonlight paddle back to River’s Edge 9:00PM – Event ends and guests are driven to Wildhaven Sonoma, a top-rated luxury glamping destination. After the fence came down, the world’s largest extant remaining piece of “Running Fence” was gifted from Christo to the Monte Rio Theater. For 46 years, the fabric has billowed from the ceiling, an enduring reminder that trusting your own vision can create unexpected joy. Christo’s inspiration was spurred by an appreciation for the unique beauty of Sonoma County. As we transition to a new era of freedom, we want to breathe new life into his legacy. The Christo Voyage is a celebration of the Christo spirit; resilience, appreciation for the community and the beauty of the Russian River. ​ “All of our materials are to be recycled and reused after a project comes down” said Christo.
