Description

Beginners beekeeping class taught by Powers Beekeepers. The class lasts approximately 3 hours. You will learn about beekeeping equipment; beekeeper's safety gear; basic bee biology; and, what you need to do in your first year to succeed in keeping your bees alive and thriving. If you are planning to keep bees or considering it and want to learn more about it, this class may be very useful for you. Class size is limited. The first 2 hours of class is held in an outdoor pavillion. The third hour of class involves going into some live hives at our apiary next to the class location. [weather permitting]. Cost is $45 which entitles you to a $15 discount if you elect to purchase NUC hives. The next class in 2022 will be on Saturday April 23 at 12 noon until about 3 pm at Sugar Roots Farm. The address is 10701 Willow Drive in Algiers, 70131. Sugar Roots Farm is a non-profit regenerative farm with an emphasis on hands on experiential learning. We have an apiary on the farm. Also..NUC hives (Starter hive complete with queen) can be reserved now for delivery beginning in April. Reserving early will make sure you get a nuc before they sell out. Our 5 frame NUCs are created from our own successfu,l over-wintered, untreated survivor hives and include a marked, laying queen. Our bees are located in Orleans and Plaquemines Parishes and are gentle and good honey producers. $180 includes a waxed cardboard nuc box with no exchange required. Wooden hive boxes, delivery and setup are also available. Call or text for more info.
