NEW HAVEN, CT — A 23-year-old Hamden woman was hospitalized after being shot in the leg Tuesday in New Haven, according to police.
The incident began around 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 27 when a family of three, including a father, mother and their 2-year-old child, stopped their car near a relative's house on Maltby Place between Clay Street and Grand Avenue in the Fair Haven neighborhood, according to Capt. Anthony Duff.
Duff said an unknown gunman was walking and fired at the parked vehicle and fled north on Maltby Place toward Clay Street. The woman, who was a passenger, the vehicle and a house were all struck by bullets, according to Duff.
The family drove to Yale-New Haven Hospital where the woman was treated and released for a leg injury that wasn't life-threatening, according to Duff. No other injuries were reported.
As the incident happened, patrol officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and a 911 call about the shooting. Arriving officers canvassed the area for the gunman, according to Duff.
Duff said the motive for the shooting is unknown.
