NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man is facing charges that he possessed ammunition as a convicted felon, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Michael Weinstein, 27, was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
Weinstein was arrested Nov. 18, 2020, and a grandy jury returned an indictment Dec. 1. He is currently released on $100,000 bond.
Investigators found Facebook video posts of Weinstein firing a handgun at a Connecticut shooting range and possessing ammunition, according to the statement.
The indictment against Weinstein alleges that he possessed .40 caliber ammunition. Weinstein was previously convicted in state court of criminal possession of a gun, conspiracy to commit third-degree robbery, and first-degree robbery.
If convicted of the charge, Weinstein faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years.
