All Framingham Schools Will Now Distribute Free Meals

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham Public Schools is expanding its food distribution program as schools remain closed to most students as the coronavirus pandemic continues. Beginning Nov. 2, families can go to any school building to pick up a grab-and-go lunch or breakfast. Up until now, food had only been available at Cameron and Fuller middle schools, and Barbieri and Wilson elementary schools. The district has been distributing food to families since the pandemic began hitting the area in March. "The expansion of our food service operation is an effort to broaden our reach and serve as many families as possible," FPS Finance Director Lincoln Lynch said in a news release. "We hope opening distribution sites at every public school in Framingham will allow for greater convenience and support to those families who are in need of food." A few hundred school staff and Framingham students with high learning needs have returned to buildings for in-person learning. But general education students in the district are fully remote. Coronavirus cases have been high in Framingham since August, and the district won't make a decision on moving to hybrid learning until December. The meals are available weekdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at any public school in Framingham. The food is free, and students do not have to be present for a family to receive a meal.
