Snails are great to have in the aquarium or pond! They do not add as much to the bio-load, meaning, they don't count like adding more fish, so even if you are at your fish max, you can still add snails. They will eat any leftover food and organic waste, even further breaking down fish poop to make it less toxic to your water column. This helps keep maintenance down... not needing as much siphoning or water changes. They breed readily, so if you overfeed or have lots of organic waste, they will keep reproducing naturally to clean all that up. They really only eat dying and decaying plants. They may eat the bad parts of a good plant. The only way they will eat good plants is if you take away all other food sources.
