FOXBOROUGH, MA — President Donald Trump's loss in Massachusetts on Tuesday was in line with his performance in 2016. With two-thirds of precincts reporting, his share of the vote has fallen from 33 percent to 31 percent. So how did Trump's support in Foxborough compare with his vote totals in 2016, when he was running against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton? According to unofficial results from the town clerk, Trump gained support in Foxborough in 2020. In 2016, he earned 4,161 votes in town, compared to 4,334 votes in 2020. Despite the increase in Trump's total votes, his percentage of the vote went down in 2020, as turnout and the number of Foxborough residents registered to vote increased. He won 40.2 percent in 2016 and 38.3 percent in 2020. Tuesday's vote climaxed a heated battle for control of the White House, unfolding during a pandemic that killed nearly a quarter of a million Americans before Election Day. As of Wednesday afternoon, the election remains too close to call, with seven key states still counting votes.
