Want to learn how to play drums? Hi my name is Josh Owen and I am a professional drummer and educator. I have been playing professionally for over 20 years and have been teaching students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds since 2008. I currently have availability for new incoming students and am offering my introductory rates for new incoming students 4 lessons for $99. I take students as young as 8 on up. My current students vary greatly in age and experience levels so whether you are new to the drums or have been playing for a little while I would love to work with you. To give a little background on myself I began playing professionally very early on first in a couple of original bands then I began working as a side man for various artists. This lead me to covering a wide range of styles such as punk, metal, alternative and indie rock, pop, country, new wave, disco, funk, reggae, rap, musical theater, jazz, a steel pan group and more! From 2005-2010 I studied music at Idaho State University and received my BM in Music Performance. Today I am still a very active performer, educator, and I record for artists from all over the map. As a drum educator it is my goal to center the lessons on the individual needs of the student. I want to help in making drummers sound great, have a great understanding of the instrument, and to have fun and enjoy playing the greatest instrument in the world, the drums! While I center lesson material to each student's needs some examples of subjects I commonly cover include learning basic beats, how to play drum fills, learning to play favorite songs, rudiments and how to apply them to drumset, how to play in odd meter, and playing with a click/sequence track just to give a few examples. For in person lessons I teach at my studio in Lake Stevens. If Lake Stevens is a bit far for you, or you prefer not to do in person lessons I also teach online using streaming services such as Zoom.
