NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck police officer was recently suspended for two days without pay in connection with a confrontation with a man during a traffic stop in September, according to The Citizen's News. The Citizen's News reports Ian Kosky, a 14-year veteran of the force, served his suspension Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 and was ordered to attend de-escalation training after an internal investigation found he violated the Naugatuck Police Department's code of conduct during the incident. The internal investigation was launched after a video began circulating on social media that depicted a traffic stop involving Kosky. Police determined the footage stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred around 9 a.m. on Sept. 21 at a road construction site on Rubber Avenue. The surveillance video shows a driver moving around traffic cones and a police cruiser to enter a parking lot. The police cruiser was blocking a lane due to construction on Rubber Avenue. Kosky is seen in the video approaching the driver as he gets out of the car. At one point, Kosky moves closer to the man, and they are face-to-face. The video then shows Kosky grabbing the man's hand and turning him around against the car (see the whole video at the end of this story). Investigators concluded that Kosky's use of force was justified, but said the way he spoke with the man was "unprofessional and a poor representation" of the department, according to The Citizen's News.
