Description

Come indulge in #SelfCareSunday & enjoy self-expression at our community Craft Workshop! We are finally back to offering monthly themed #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshops in person to encourage a healthy mental relationship with self-expression and applied art in a safe and conscious environment. At Unique Union, Inc., we have always believed that self-care is a positive habit and we use DIY projects in our creative community as a way to "put in the work" that is needed to maintain our emotional well-being. Our workshops are held in the Marshall Heights community of Ward 7 SE, Washington, DC-- an area with a rich local history, at the Capitol View Neighborhood Library. This DC Public Library is only steps away from Benning Road Metrorail Station. April's theme is Self Care + Flow. This workshop is all about connecting with your everyday environment, improving your mood, promoting creativity, and making self-care a daily ritual with very little effort. We provide the tools needed to make personalized alcohol ink paintings on canvas (arranged in your own, unique fashion)! Alcohol inks are brightly colored dye-based paints that are most often used in creating free-flowing textures. They can be used alone in mixed media projects such as printing and stamping, jewelry making, fabric dying, and brightening up household objects. These dye-based inks are transparent and extremely vibrant. Because of the transparent properties, you can play around with layering and blending the inks. Once the first layer dries, you can add on additional layers to create depth and overlapping colors. The transparency lets you add tints of color and texture without muddying or concealing the original pattern or surface of an object. However, white alcohol ink is opaque and can mix with the other colors to create tints and pastels. The first 5 tickets to our Craft Workshops are FREE. You can also join us with the "Pay what You can" option (suggested $15 per craft item) -- to keep future #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop attendance free of charge for local, underserved individuals on a journey to maintain their mental health through creative well-being. Save your space today! We follow all CDC and DCPL guidelines, including mask requirements and room ventilation. We will have light refreshments available and craft instruction will begin at 2 pm.
