If you didn't know... Michael Barnes began teaching at Ponaganset High School in 1988, served as a Fellow at the RI Department of Education, and has led and supported Foster-Glocester Schools as Superintendent since 2008. His experience and expertise are deeply rooted in enhancing learning, teaching, empowering, and cultivating shared leadership. Dr. Barnes is well-recognized for his innovative approaches to education and has been asked to serve on dozens of committees and workgroups at the local, state, regional, and national levels. Dr. Barnes has brought millions of dollars into the district to enhance the quality of education for students, teachers, and families and to mitigate the financial burden on local taxpayers. He established Career and Technical Education programs at Ponaganset that provide our students with a competitive edge, enable them to pursue their passions, and serve as a model for districts across the state. He has continuously enhanced our educational facilities, added state-of-the-art technology to every classroom, purchased furniture to support collaborative learning, and systematically renovated and expanded our athletic facilities in and out of school. Some of his recognitions during his career include being selected as: Milken National EducatorAmerican Association of School Administrators RI Superintendent of the Year,New England Secondary School Consortium Champion of EducationInternational Technology Education Association RI Technology Teacher of the YearNew England Association of Technology Teachers Program Excellence AwardGlocester Business Association Joan M.
