FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police have increased patrols in Town Hall Square to ensure election security at the town's ballot drop box location. State officials said the "urgent election directive" came from Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin after a ballot box was set ablaze in Boston on Sunday. Falmouth has a ballot drop box in the square outside the town hall at 59 Town Hall Square. Police Lt. Douglas DeCosta said in addition to added patrols, police set up a portable video surveillance system near the ballot box. He said the system is capable of recording the video feed and remote monitoring. All ballots that are received by 8 p.m. on Election Day, which includes vote-by-mail, absentee, in-person early or in-person Election Day ballots, will be counted. Unofficial results will be reported after the close of the polls on Election Day.
