Description

Press release from the Boston Police District D-4 South End: April 14, 2022 Great Work Recognized: On Saturday April 9, 2022, 911 Call Taker Moneeka Colston received an emergency call from an adult male victim who had inadvertently fallen into some sort of culvert or void in a wall near the Back Bay MBTA Station in Boston. The victim was unable to free himself or provide any information as to his specific location. During the call, Moneeka remained on the line with the victim for well over an hour until such time that he was located following a large response and subsequent search by BPD officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) in coordination with multiple assets from the MBTA Transit Police Department, Boston Fire Department (BFD) and Massachusetts State Police. The victim was safely extricated by members of the BFD and immediately transported by Boston EMS to a local area hospital for treatment of injuries that were considered to be serious but non-life-threatening in nature. There is no doubt that the victim is alive today because of Moneeka's commitment, dedication and tenacity while utilizing her own creative thinking and Phase II Mapping capabilities to make this rescue a success. Most importantly, she was able to provide a voice of comfort and a lifeline of support to this male victim for a long duration until his rescuers could finally reach him and bring him to safety.
