FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth woman with a Black Lives Matter sign in her yard found a black doll's head in her yard with a racial slur written on it, according to police. Around 4 p.m. Sunday, police Detective David Massi was called to a home in the Hatchville area and met with the woman and her grandson. Police said the family brought Massi to end of the driveway and showed him the doll head that had the words "N----- Luva" written in black marker on the doll's forehead. The woman told police she was mowing her lawn when she found the doll head in a bush. Police said the woman felt she was being targeted for her political views. In addition to her Black Lives Matter sign, she has several signs in support of Democratic candidates. The police report indicated that police are investigating the incident as a hate crime, specifically "property damage to intimidate" with an anti-Black bias. Police said the woman didn't know how long the doll head was there. Massi took the doll in to collect fingerprints, and officers are awaiting the return of the fingerprint analysis. The Falmouth Select Board briefly discussed the discovery at its meeting Monday night. Chairwoman Megan English Braga said she received a call Monday afternoon from the woman who found the doll head. The woman told English Braga police dispatch were wonderful in their response. "It really is just an exercise in cowardice, and it really doesn't have a place in our town," English Braga said.
