Press release from the Maine Historical Society: April 14, 2022 Maine Historical Society Event Thursday, May 5, 2022 Hannaford Hall, USM Portland Campus 5:00 to 8:00 pm Portland, ME: Maine Historical Society (MHS) is proud to honor longtime attorneys Severin Beliveau and Harold Pachios for their dedicated contributions to Maine, and the inclusivity they helped usher into the state's civic leadership over the past 50 years. Severin and Harold grew up in Franco and Greek Maine families when discrimination against immigrants, Catholics, and other ethnic groups was rampant. Their hard work and personal examples helped open doors to broad civic participation in Maine by immigrants and diverse communities. The public is invited to attend MHS' annual Maine History Maker Award on Thursday, May 5, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at USM's Hannaford Hall in Portland. This special evening will celebrate the storied Maine roots of Severin and Harold, their establishment of Preti Flaherty as one of the state's most prominent law firms, and their advocacy for Maine people in local and national politics. The program will also introduce an emerging generation of new Mainers who follow in their footsteps. Each year, MHS honors an individual or family in Maine who is making significant contributions to the community. Our Maine History Maker Award recognizes traditions of innovation and leadership that have defined Maine throughout its history. Additionally, Maine History Maker serves as MHS' most significant fundraising event of the year, with proceeds supporting diverse MHS programming that serve people throughout Maine and beyond. Previous honorees include: The L. L. Bean Family, The Hildreth Family, Maine's Food Pioneers, and Mary Bonauto.
