April 14, 2022
The Ames Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 10:08 a.m. today (Thursday, April 14) after a caller reported smoke coming from the end unit of multi-family apartment building. Ames Fire crews arrived at 527 East Lincoln Way to smoke, but no inhabitants were in the apartment at the time.
Firefighters entered the end unit, located the fire, and extinguished it. Damage was confined to the apartment with the fire and one adjacent unit. Firefighters helped evacuate residents from six other units, and there were no injuries. Electricity and water were shut-off during the response, and the Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents of the building until utilities can be reconnected.
Ames Fire crews from all three fire stations responded to the incident.
The Ames Fire Department reminds residents to check their smoke detectors every month. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
