Press release from the City of Hammond: April 13, 2022 Department: Hammond Police Department Job Title: Correctional Officer Supervisor/Trainer Date Requested: April 8, 2022 Date Needed: ASAP Salary: $56,700.00 per year/full-time/three shifts Job Requirements High School Diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma) Ability to pass an FBI/NCIC (Federal Bureau of Investigation/National Information Center) criminal history screening and Hammond Police Department background check Ability to pass Standard Aptitude Test, Physical Agility Test, Voice Stress Analysis, Psychological Test, Drug Screening (New Hire Only) Oral Interview Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Corrections Officer Must have the following accreditations/certifications prior to employment. 40 hour Correctional Officer Course at NILEA Taser Certification Physical Tactics/Use of Force Course PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) De-Escalation Techniques IDACS Certification CPR Certification/First-Aid/Fire Safety Course Basic Fingerprint Training Ability to read, analyze, follow and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Public Safety Officers, Co-workers and the General Public Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form Must be comfortable interacting with inmates in close quarters Must have previous supervisor and training experience Must live in Hammond at time of hire (Ordinance 8620) Job Duties Shall report to the Booking Area ready to start on time, will assist the Jail Commander as directed Shall assist with the booking and bonding of detainees Record personal property of prisoners and seal property in envelope Maintain prisoner wall board Shall be responsible for ordering and serving food to detainees in the Hammond City Jail Fingerprints, photographs and searches prisoners Shall remove and escort prisoners from their cells as directed Shall permit persons to visit detainees as directed Shall make visual check of all detainees on a regular basis, based on jail policy Shall be called upon to assist with any detainee confrontations involving the use of physical force and potential exposure to infectious disease Shall understand and conform to 48 hour hold for PC Arrest by communication with CID Shall scan all documentation from all arrests Shall complete all necessary paperwork for inmate shipping to other departments Wash, dry and fold prisoner laundry Lunch and dinner breaks are not given on a regular basis – Correctional Officers are required to stay in the jail for breaks, unless manpower allows them to leave the building Empty garbage, nominal cleaning is required: cleaning booking area (vacuum, counters, etc.) Shall instruct and train new and current correctional officers Shall supervise a shift consisting of correctional officers and police transport officers Any and all other duties assigned by the Jail Commander Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk & hear The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus Physical Agility Requirements (New Hire Only) Sit-ups: maximum amount in a one minute period; minimum amount (25) Push-ups: maximum amount in a two minute period; minimum amount (21) Dummy Drag: 200 feet – 90 pounds (45 seconds) 300 meter sprint: Timed minimum (81 seconds) Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate Hiring will be done in accordance with Hammond City Ordinance #8620 as it pertains to the residency requirement.Position to be posted internally from April 8, 2022 thru April 14, 2022.
