Description
EASTON, MA — Democrat Carol Doherty will represent parts of Easton and Taunton as a state senator in the Third Bristol District after winning her state special election on Tuesday.
The Democrat received 57 percent of the votes overall, defeating Republican Kelly Dooner, in the district that includes Taunton and the sixth precinct in Easton.
The Easton precinct had 218 votes cast with Doherty receiving 123 (56.4 percent) of them — in proportion with the overall vote.
The former Taunton School Committe member replaces Shaunna O'Connell. who gave up her seat when she was elected Taunton's mayor.
The special election fills the seat until a general election is held in November.
