Press release from the City of Huntsville Parks & Recreation Department: April 15, 2022 The City of Huntsville will move forward with plans to upgrade Kids' Space after City Council approved a $6.8 million construction contract Thursday night. The Council voted to allow Mayor Tommy Battle to enter into an agreement between the City and general contractor Miller & Miller, Inc., for Phase II of Kids' Space at John Hunt Park. Per the agreement, the project will include the following: New playground equipment and surfacingNew park area entry and signageRestroom building renovationsExpanded parking lotNew parking lot signageDecorative fencingCoordination with the previously announced skatepark project Gossett, Director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation, said the playground improvements will reflect Huntsville's past, present and future. "Kids' Space is a popular children's play spot that has been serving our community for three decades," he said. "As the property ages, safety and maintenance concerns require that we make updates to ensure all children can continue to enjoy the area for years to come." Construction will begin in early May and take approximately 14 months to complete. Enhancements at the property will make Kids' Space flexible, engaging and inclusive for children of all ages and abilities. In addition to Kids' Space, Huntsville Parks & Recreation operates more than 60 public parks, 15 rec centers and six sports complexes throughout the City.
