The quest to repeat as State Champions got one step closer for the Milford Little League softball 12U District All Star team, as they defeated Fairfield 3-1 Sunday in a rematch of the 2019 Section 1 Championship. Fairfield forced the winner-take-all match-up earlier in the day with an 8-3 win over Milford.
In the Finale, Milford's Madyson Bull was back to her dominating self, limiting the hot Fairfield bats to only 1 hit over 6 innings.
The game was hitless and scoreless for the first three innings. In the Fairfield 4th, a one-out single would come around to score on a Milford infield error, giving Fairfield a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the 6th, Milford's Charlotte Doyle worked a lead-off walk. Walks to Julia O'Connell and Bull would loaded the bases. Avery Falco followed with a walk scoring Doyle tying the game at 1. Fairfield followed with a nice defensive play to a force out at home. With the bases still loaded, Alyssa Joye walked scoring Bull giving Milford the lead. Avery Falco would score on a passed ball extending the lead to 3-1.
Putouts by Falco and Bull along with a strikeout, retired Fairfield in the bottom of the 6th inning to give Milford it's back-to-back Section 1 Championship.
Milford will now face 2019 State Runner-up Waterford on Saturday in game 1 of the best of 3 series at 2:00 at Brewster Field in Milford.
