Woodbridge's Case Number High, But Deaths Lower Than In Spring

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge's COVID case numbers are now on par with what they were in April, but deaths — for reasons not yet apparent — are much lower than in the spring. Woodbridge had 365 new coronavirus cases over Thanksgiving week, the highest weekly total since the week ending April 11. "We can no longer say our numbers are high but not as bad as they were in the spring although there are certainly more tests being done in November than in April when there were only a handful of sites offering the tests compared to now when there are many more," said Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac. A 66 year-old woman and an 88 year-old woman died in long-term care facilities in Woodbridge last week, as well. Woodbridge has so far had four COVID deaths in November and two in October, "a far cry from the dozens that we unfortunately experienced in the first two months of this pandemic," said the mayor, but added that even one death from the virus is too many. The average age of cases this past week was 41 and over 40 percent of the cases were people under 30 years of age, McCormac reported.
