MILFORD, CT — Milford is in the midst of a significant increase in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, many of which can be traced back to indoor and outdoor social gatherings, according to Mayor Ben Blake. In a phone message to residents Tuesday, Blake gave an update on the virus, which he said has tallied twice the number of cases last week compared to the previous week. He did not offer specific numbers in his statement. "Based on contact tracing information, many of these cases are connected to indoor and outdoor social gatherings," Blake said. With cases rising as the holiday season approaches, Blake said that residents need to be extra diligent in protecting themselves, their loved ones and others. He also recommended the following precautions: Wear a mask and social distance when outside the homeWash hands oftenGet tested as soon as possible and remain at home for 14 days if exposed to COVID-19Stay away from work, school, and gatherings if COVID-19 symptoms develop or if any household member is waiting on test resultsAvoid carpooling and indoor gatherings with non-household membersAvoid large outdoor events and gatherings where close contact is unavoidable"If we all work together to do our part, we can limit the spread of this virus in Milford," Blake said. "Thank you and please stay healthy."
