Description
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Amazon officially opened its new warehouse in Avenel this week, in an 185,000-square-foot building on Paddock Street.
This is technically an Amazon delivery station, which Amazon says speeds up deliveries for customers. Packages are shipped to delivery stations from neighboring Amazon fulfillment centers, and from the delivery stations they are loaded into Amazon vans and delivered to customers.
To mark the Avenel station launch, Amazon donated $10,000 to the Woodbridge Domestic Violence Response Team. More than 150 domestic violence victims in Avenel will be given that money.
"When you look at the stats, Woodbridge is low in crime all over the place. The one spot we're up is domestic violence," said Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac, standing outside the Avenel delivery station. "That is not because we have more cases per capita; it's because we have (a domestic violence response team) and that is why people in Woodbridge are much more comfortable to report domestic violence. Because they know they have people like this waiting for them."
The Amazon delivery station is located at 1 Paddock Street in Avenel and will create more than 300 full and part-time associate jobs, all paying at least $15.75 per hour with an up to $500 sign-on bonus.
There are also hundreds of driver opportunities for Amazon's Delivery Service Partners and Amazon Flex drivers. For more information about open positions, visit https://www.amazon.jobs/
