Foran HS Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

MILFORD, CT — Henry Leonard, a senior at Joseph A. Foran High School in Milford, recently qualified as a semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, Max Berkowitz, principal of the school, announced. Students become eligible for the award by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) administered annually at their high school. More than 1.5 million juniors across the country took the exam last year with fewer than 1 percent of test-takers receiving semifinalist status, officials said. As a semifinalist, Leonard moves to the next round of the competition where he will seek to become a finalist and ultimately eligible for a variety of scholarships provided by corporations and businesses across the country. Finalists will be named in the spring. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has partnered with The College Board for decades through the administration of the PSAT. Corporations across the country and around the world use the PSAT/NMSQT as a qualifying factor in awarding millions of dollars' worth of college scholarships to high-performing students each year.
