Description

Dance Therapy. Friday is all about house music. Lineup Marc SchneiderTechnique can be refined, and skill can be learned, but impeccable taste is rare and elusive. That’s why Marc Schneider is your favouíte DJ’s favourite DJ. There are DJs, and then there are “DJ’s DJs”—the influential jocks who break tunes, unearth obscure must-haves, spark off new trends, and breathe new life into the artform at every opportunity. Marc Schneider has been the embodiment of the latter for over two decades. The Hamburg native began amassing his personal collection of DJ weapons amid the heyday of ‘90s German raves, with his early appearances feeding the folklore of legendary parties such as Love Parade and the original Tresor club. As the longtime gatekeeper for music distributor Word and Sound, he has overseen virtually every worthwhile piece of vinyl to enter the country. He continues to apply his tastemaker status and veteran knowledge in the DJ booth through regular invitations to Panorama Bar (Berlin), Fabric (London), Eleven (Tokyo), Rex Club (Paris), The Bunker (NYC), Bassani (Tbisili), Smart Bar (Chicago), Culture Box (Copenhagen), Watergate (Berlin), Electric Pickle (Miami). That’s not to mention his long-running affiliation with Hamburg’s PAL and the Golden Pudel Club, as well as the infamous annual event Fusion Festival. With his sporadic yet highly-valued releases and remixes for labels like Circus Company, Silver Network, New Kanada and Word and Sound’s inhouse imprint Was Not Was, Marc has endeared himself to record-buying heads over a number of years. Similarly, it was little surprise for those in the know to learn that Marc had been secretly at the helm of the formerly anonymous cult label Story, the unassuming vinyl-only imprint of quality deep cuts that has boasted the likes of Anton Zap, Cottam and XDB on its roster since 2008. Technique can be refined, and skill can be learned, but impeccable taste is rare and elusive. That’s why Marc Schneider is your favouíte DJ’s favorite DJ. Now based in New York, Vivian spends time in the studio, producing music live with analogue equipment, but more importantly recognizing that she is a lifelong student of music.. She is also an up and coming selector in the NYC music community. Vivian's vinyl-based DJ aesthetic started in long care rides with her father - sharing passion for rhythm, patterns, melody, and techno. She embraces the elements of house techno blended with the soul of Detroit, resulting in a sophisticated groove that originates from her contagious energy. She has an upcoming release on Brooklyn Sway and is a co-founder of Freshly Pressed, a music collective focused on promoting underrepresented groups in the NYC vinyl community coming together to promote positive impact. About No RequestsIn 2021, a group of friends were out late one night in Portland, looking for a place to listen and dance to amazing house music artists and DJs.We weren’t just looking for any club. We were looking for a house music oasis. A place that consistently embodies the club culture we grew up with, where house and electronic music is enjoyed by everyone, without intolerance or judgement. But… we couldn’t find it in the way we wanted. We were an eclectic mix. Passionate house music DJs influenced by the European club culture, event curators and long time DJs from Portland, and transplants from all over the world who now call Portland home. One day, we came together to create a new concept based on our experiences and our love of house music. As an eclectic bunch of music lovers, we know that diversity has always been at the heart of club culture and house music. Celebrating and respecting everyone regardless of religion, race, physical ability, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity is the foundation of club culture. After months of creative planning, we decided to contribute to the house music scene in Portland in a very special way and open a club called No Requests. At No Requests, we follow a radically open dance floor and door policy. We ensure that all of our house music events embody the club culture that we love, believe in, and want to foster, while keeping our guests as safe as possible during this time of ambiguity. Our commitment is to consistently showcase the best Portland-based house music DJs as well as regional (Oregon), national, and international house music DJs, while celebrating diversity and equality, and constantly innovating the experiences and services at No Requests. And by doing so, Portland's club culture and house music scene will be globally recognized as one of the top destinations for house and electronic music.‍ No Requests, and no regrets.
