WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Do you use Santander Bank in Woodbridge?
A Santander Bank ATM in Woodbridge, plus Sayreville, fell victim to a wide-ranging ATM scam that saw dozens of people arrested by the FBI this week in New York and New Jersey.
As first reported by NJ.com, sources told the site that tens of thousands of dollars were stolen from Santander Bank ATMs in Bergen, Mercer, Middlesex, Essex, Hudson, Morris and Union counties.
Woodbridge police spokesman Scott Kuzma told NJ 101.5 that arrests were made at a Woodbridge Santander ATM, but would not provide any further details, or say which Santander in Woodbridge (there are three).
The scam reportedly stems from a glitch in Santander Bank ATMs, which allows individuals to continuously withdraw cash using prepaid debit cards. Reports of fraudulent withdrawals have been popping up in New York and New Jersey since Tuesday morning.
People have been arrested at Santander Banks all over New Jersey, including as close by as Holmdel.
