Join us for a hands on workshop to learn all about backyard composting! Taught by Tilth Alliance in the New Start Community Garden, Burien. Have you ever wanted to recycle your food and yard wastes and turn them into nutrients for your garden? Compost is fundamental to organic vegetable gardening and will improve and enliven any type of garden soil. Making compost at home can save you money and reduce the carbon footprint of your garden. In this fun, hands-on class we will go over the basics of the composting process, explore several techniques that are available to you, troubleshoot common issues, and practices a few techniques together. Carey Thornton and Anita Waghani teach classes and manage community learning gardens with Tilth Alliance, an educational non-profit that works with farmers and gardeners across the state of Washington. In addition to experience composting in home and community garden settings, Carey and Anita bring passion and expertise in organic gardening, food preservation, permaculture and environmental stewardship.
