Linear Bocce is BACK!
Dear Bocce People, Are you feeling strong? Are you feeling clever? Are you feeling lucky?
Good!
Because Linear Bocce is back!!
Yes, after a two-year hiatus the northern hemisphere’s fastest-growing sport makes its return with the North American Championships on April 30, 2022.
Where: Indianapolis, Indiana; in the alley at 42nd Street between Park Avenue and Broadway Street. Meet at 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the IMCPL Broadway Branch library, 4180 N. College Ave. (this is the starting point).
When: April 30, 2022 --RAIN or SHINE; Start time 3 p.m.; Regulation play concludes 5 p.m.; Playoffs: 5 p.m. - 5:20 p.m. (ish)
Why: Because
What to bring: Bring your own bocce balls (3 per person) and your own refreshments. Cheese, crackers and so on. Adult beverages are encouraged (as this is a high-anxiety competition). Many competitors haul their goods in some kind of cart or wagon, which works much better than a backpack as you travel down the alley.
Prizes: Yes (probably)
Cost: $30 plus Eventbrite fee (per our tradition, at the event’s conclusion, together we will pick the charity that gets the dough; we vote -- it's totally democratic)
Banquet: We will repair to the Red Key Tavern, 5170 N. College Ave. for post-tournament visitation and beverage consumption at roughly 6 p.m. (attendance here not mandatory, but strongly encouraged).
Dress code: Some type of neck-wear is mandatory; tie, scarf, ascot, whatever, your choice — but something around the neck as this is a high-class affair. (We are essentially tramping through peoples' backyards; if we appear high-toned, homeowners are less likely to call police.)
Sanctioning body: American Association of Linear Bocce
Looking forward to seeing everybody.
Best wishes,
Will Higgins,
Commissioner,
American Association of Linear Bocce
