Learn to standup paddleboard!
• Registration opens June 1 and closes June 15 (or when all spots are filled).
• Limited to 15 women, ages 16 and up.
• Location: Griffy Lake Nature Preserve, 3400 N. Headley Rd., Bloomington, IN
• Event Leaders: Rebecca Swift with City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation
This workshop starts with a short land lesson to review simple safety tips and practical information to successfully operate a standup paddleboard (SUP). The process is broken down into how to get on the board from the dock, how to stand (or not stand), the mechanics of paddling, simple turns, and how to safely exit the board. As a group we’ll paddle to a quiet spot on Griffy Lake and then sit or recline on our boards for quiet meditation, taking in the sounds of nature. The lake is teeming with activity, from blue herons landing nearby to kingfishers flying overhead. Lifejackets, paddles, and boards are provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle. 2 hours
This is an official WINGS event! Each WINGS event features women-led hands-on training, with the goal of building a community of women interested in outdoor recreation.
