Budget focuses and allocation to the highest fire risk zones, cutting a firebreak on the perimeter of town in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), and preserving our tree lined street tree medians with better maintenance of the trees for safety. Considerations: Current tree cutting is focused on tree lined streets, in the lower risk zone of El Granada. Tree canopy plays a major role in climate cooling, water cycles, and carbon sequestration. Cutting/thinning down large numbers of trees: Reduces the fog creation and cooling shade of forest canopy. Increases winds in an area; winds which drove California's recent, uncontrollable fires.” (https://www.hillsconservationnetwork.org) Increase noises, sound and smell from the highway. Contingency Plans if Tree Cutting Continues It is difficult to replant anything on the medians in the foreseeable future due to county encroachment permitting landscaping liability limitations, so we will be left with barren weed filled medians. The county has refused to fund or plan any landscaping/restoration on the medians.
