Press release from CGA: Oct. 2, 2020 State Senator Matt Lesser (D-Middletown) is releasing the following statement in regards to the agreement made between Hartford HealthCare and Anthem Insurance. "This is good news for families across Connecticut with Anthem insurance coverage," said Sen. Lesser. "I'm glad these two companies were able to reach an agreement, ensuring continuity of care for families and patients across the state. Resolving disputes between insurance companies and hospitals without disrupting access to health care will remain a top priority of mine going forward." Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Hartford HealthCare had been in contract negotiations for several months. The deal settles different contractual disputes, including contracts between the two companies set to expire on October 1, 2020. A notice had been sent to members in the state who are insured with Anthem 60 days prior to the October 1 expiration date. Since Hartford HealthCare has reached agreement on a new contract with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, disruption for patients and providers has been avoided and continued in-network coverage for patients will continue to be provided. The new contract takes effect October 1, 2020. In 2018, the Connecticut General Assembly passed PA 18-115, which requires a mandatory 60-day cooling off period before a hospital can go out of network, and increased notification requirements to policyholders.
