Willie Rankin has a knack for creating things. In high school, his team won a national competition for robotics. He was always considered creative — participating in theater and making music.
"It's something about creating something from nothing," Rankin said.
His creativity helped him when he walked in the doors as the executive director of the Las Vegas Trail Revitalization Project. Rankin walked in with his personal laptop, a single employee and a $450,000 budget with the mission to provide resources to an underserved community. Now, he's leaving the organization with $1.3 million and what will become a 10-employee team.
Rankin, 34, is combining his experiences of serving in the Marines with his Master's Degree in business administration to create positive change in the community. He is ready to move on to his next nonprofit as the director of the newly founded Institute to Advance Child Care at Child Care Associates in Fort Worth.
