Here are the top five stories in Woonsocket today: A shoutout to Pat Julien, who celebrated her 100th birthday at the beginning of the month. Her advice is to "just keep going." She "still drives to see her family in New Hampshire every weekend." Among her friends, she has the reputation that "there's nothing she can't do." (The Valley Breeze)There was a case of alleged animal cruelty last week at Cass Avenue Park Pond. A group of individuals was seen harming and killing Charlie, the local snapping turtle. On Wednesday, we learned that the "individuals have been identified, and Woonsocket Animal Control is following up." (Unsolved R.I.) At Monday night's City Council meeting, officials will get a first glimpse of the Heritage Canal plan. Members of the Heritage Canal District Subcommittee have been meeting once a month since August. Their mission was to determine the feasibility of a canal district neighborhood to "pay homage to the city's mill history and connect tourists easily to businesses on Main Street." The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. (The Call) The Harris Public Library is offering a new club. Beginning Monday, there will be an Astronomy Club that meets "on the first and third Monday of each month, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult." The club leader is Mark Munkacsy, "an astronomer who built his own robotic observatory, and will explore the sky with those attending." (The Valley Breeze) Do you remember when we talked about the case involving a former Woonsocket resident, who was alleged to have dressed up in a wig and women's clothes to "surreptitiously record minor females in bathrooms and changing rooms at the Wrentham Outlets using pen cameras affixed to his shoes?" We learned Thursday that the same man was arrested and charged with "surreptitiously filming an 11-year-old Massachusetts girl changing in her bedroom in March 2021."
