Description

Press release from the City of Ames: April 13, 2022 Reconstruction of East 13th Street continues with a lane shift beginning Friday, April 15. Traffic on East 13th Street from Duff to Meadowlane avenues will shift to the two outside lanes (one lane for westbound traffic and one lane for eastbound traffic). The two center lanes will be closed to begin removal and replacement of centerline manholes. During this stage, the sidewalk on the north side of East 13th Street will remain closed, but driveways on the north side will be reopened. Access from Glendale and Stafford avenues on the north side of East 13th Street will also be closed. Open side streets will have right-turn-only access to East 13th Street. Removal and replacement of manholes is expected to be complete within two weeks. Once the manhole work is complete, the two south (eastbound) lanes of East 13th Street from Duff to Meadowlane avenues will be closed for full pavement removal and replacement. Traffic will be shifted to single-lane head-to-head traffic on the two north (westbound) lanes. Additional stages of the project will follow. The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct to complete this project, which will include new concrete street pavement, storm and sanitary sewer improvements, water main replacement, residential water transfers, shared use path, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramp improvements. At all times, one lane of 13th Street in each direction will remain open to traffic. However, access to side streets will be restricted for safety reasons and to ease potential congestion of the construction zone. Construction is anticipated to be completed in fall 2022. As with all projects, the actual duration will depend on weather conditions. All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays will occur. The work zone will have low speeds and narrow lanes. Please use alternate routes if available. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through the construction area. This press release was produced by the City of Ames.
