JOLIET — A 25-year-old drug user from Braidwood is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Justin Grandys was speeding 100 mph along Larkin Avenue at Glenwood Avenue around 2:05 a.m. on Good Friday. The Braidwood man sped away from the Joliet patrol officers, and he eventually hit another vehicle, before crashing into a tree, Joliet police announced. When Joliet police found him in his crashed car, Grandys was suffering from a drug overdose, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English indicated. Now, Grandys is in the Will County Jail where he's charged with aggravated fleeing a peace officer, DUI involving alcohol and drugs, DUI and reckless driving. A Joliet police officer running radar clocked Grandys speeding 100 mph in the 35 mph zone near Joliet West, according to police. Grandys was using the median of Larkin Avenue to pass vehicles and sparks were flying from the front of his car. "The vehicle continued to flee from officers westbound on Black Road at a high rate of speed," English announced. "Officers then terminated the pursuit due to a concern for safety based on the vehicle's speed." Several minutes later, Joliet police learned that the fleeing car got into a wreck at Gaylord Road and Blossom Street. "It was determined that Grandys was northbound on Gaylord Road at a high rate of speed at which time he struck the rear of another northbound vehicle," police reports show. "Grandys' vehicle then struck a tree." Grandys and a passenger from the other vehicle were taken by Joliet Fire Department ambulances to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Since Grandys injuries weren't serious, he was booked into the Will County Jail at 6:56 a.m.
