Council receives update on the Southwest light rail project The city council received an update on the Southwest light rail project from a representative of the Metro Green Line Extension. The presentation addressed the new construction schedule, additional project costs, construction challenges, and the work completed and planned for in Minnetonka. Council adopts ordinance renaming Lindbergh Drive The city council adopted the ordinance renaming Lindbergh Drive to Royals Drive. This renaming coincides with the Hopkins School Board's decision to rename the Lindbergh Center to the Royals Athletic Center. The costs of signage updates and replacements will be covered by the city's general operating budget. Council adopts resolution declaring a climate emergency The city council adopted a resolution declaring a climate emergency. The climate emergency declaration is authored by the Minnesota Cities Climate Caucus, a statewide group of city councils and mayors. It explains the impacts of climate change being felt in Minnesota, commits cities to take climate action, and calls on state and federal leaders to address climate change. Council amends Capital Improvements Plan for Minnetonka Ice Arena projects The city council amended the Capital Improvements Plan for the replacement of the Electric Ice Resurfacer and the bleachers in Rink B in 2022.This amendment will reallocate funds from one Ice Arena project to another, in total saving $6,484. Council approves items related to Abdo Market House multi-family residential development at 14317 Excelsior Boulevard The city council adopted an ordinance rezoning the property at 14317 Excelsior Boulevard from R-1, low density residential to PUD, as well as resolutions approving a vacation of right-of-way easement, approving the preliminary and final plats, and approving the final site and building plans. The applicant, Abdo Market House, is proposing to remove the existing single-family home and construct a four-story, 36-unit apartment building with underground parking and resident amenity spaces.
