Mayor Talks Traffic Safety, Quiet Skies With Agoura Hills Residents

AGOURA HILLS, CA — Agoura Hills residents on Thursday gathered at Sumac Park to chat face-to-face Mayor Deborah Klein Lopez and other city staff at the city's monthly "At The Mayor's Table" meeting. Lopez offered an overview of city projects, including city staff's recent lobbying efforts in Washington DC, the groundbreaking of the long-awaited Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing and more over coffee and muffins on a sunny park day. Residents raised concerns about a number of topics including Federal Aviation Administration flight patterns that have left much of the western San Fernando Valley frustrated with noise. Such complaints have also been raised by residents in neighboring Calabasas and Malibu. Lopez spent some time explaining misconceptions about the city's updated housing plan and addressed rumors that the city is working on a massive development project. The city has no such housing project in the works, she said. The city has only updated zoning to allow for potential private building projects in accordance with state requirements, she said. (Emily Rahhal/Patch) Residents also expressed concerns about traffic safety near the city's schools, wondering about adding crosswalks to certain intersections near local campuses. Lopez encouraged residents to contact her with specific intersections so city staff can determine the feasibility of additional crosswalks, traffic lights or stop signs. Such traffic modifications are often slow and expensive, she said. Thursday's discussion was Lopez's second in-person "At The Mayor's Table" event.
