Press release from the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce: April 13, 2022 FORT SMITH, AR – 64.6 Downtown, a non-profit organization, is hosting its first fundraising event, Hoops on Garrison, in partnership with First National Bank of Fort Smith and Academy Sports & Outdoors. This family friendly event is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for ages 17 and up with tournament team prize money of 1st place $650, 2nd place $450, and 3rd place $300. In conjunction with Hoops on Garrison, First National Bank will be hosting a community event in celebration of their 150 years of business in downtown Fort Smith. Activities will include children play area, vendor village, food trucks, and DJ. Teams must register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/297084015287. All team members must be at least 17 years of age and sign the waiver release form. Hoops on Garrison assists in the ongoing implementation of programming downtown cultural events that support a healthy and active community. According to Aspire Arkansas (www.aspirearkansas.org), 30% percent of adults in Sebastian County reported they did not engage in leisure-time physical activity within the past 30 days, such as running, calisthenics, golf, gardening, or walking, while 46% of children are considered obese (have a BMI that is at or above the 85th percentile). Proceeds from Hoops on Garrison will assist 64.6 Downtown in its continuation of unique activations that encourage outdoor engagement to promote community walkability through their outdoor art gallery and Levitt AMP Fort Smith Music Series.
