NORTHPORT, AL — Northport City Council President Jeff Hogg has once again issued a friendly challenge to his colleagues and their council districts as a way to boost participation in the city's free curbside recycling program. Click here to subscribe to our free daily newsletter and breaking news alerts. With Earth Day set for April 22, the competition will see which district can have the most residents sign up for the program. The competition will conclude at 4 p.m. on Earth Day. What's more, the numbers of those signing up will be updated each day on the City of Northport's Facebook page. Hogg's District 5 won the first-ever competition last year, with more than 200 people signing up across the city's five council districts. Offered by Northport Public Works, the free curbside recycling is available to both new and existing residential garbage customers. To schedule a recycling bin delivery, call (205) 333-3003 from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The process is simple and take only a couple of minutes to sign up. There is a 4-bin limit per household and bins are delivered on Thursdays. Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
