WESTFIELD, NJ — A popular downtown Westfield jewelry store, Alex and Ani, reportedly removed its signage last week, with its phone number apparently disconnected. Customers and friends mourned on social media over the weekend. "I am heartbroken to see the Westfield Alex & Ani close its doors," posted a woman who said she once worked for the company, on Sunday. "I am beyond grateful for all of the positive memories...from charity events, holiday dinners, dancing around the store while spraying Scent 7, creating fun social media posts, fangirling over Harry Potter pieces & of course, the infamous electrical fire (pictured below in the freezing cold). I started working at Alex and Ani in January 2014 & helped open the store a few weeks later. I met so many incredible women...." The company's Instagram and Facebook accounts have not been updated since March 16, when they posted that they were closing "until further notice" because of the coronavirus pandemic. "As we navigate these uncertain times, we continue to send peace, positivity, and healing thoughts into the world," they wrote. Several calls to their local phone number Sunday night resulted in a brief busy signal, followed by disconnection. The company's website, which lists locations and hours for each store in New York and New Jersey, says "Closed" every day for the Westfield store. On Friday, TAPInto reported that the lettering had been removed for the store and that an employee said they won't be reopening in Westfield. The Westfield store on East Broad Street opened in 2014.
