With limited supervision, this position performs a variety of maintenance and repair jobs of city-owned equipment. A Mechanic Assistant may be promoted after meeting the experience necessary for the classification, plus supervisory approval, and satisfactory performance evaluations. Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license at the time of appointment and a driving record free of significant moving violations. After a 1-year probation period, the employee will be required to obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License at the City’s expense. To view the job description, click here: Compensation: The starting salary is $27.44 to $31.81 per hour DOE. Benefits: Employees receive 8 hours per month of vacation accrual (increases in 3rd year), 96 hours of sick leave accrual per year, and 11 paid holidays. After six months of employment, employees receive one floating holiday and after one year, two personal leave days are provided. Employees also receive an additional 1% longevity pay after five years (longevity increases every five years thereafter with a 6% cap). This position is eligible for retirement benefits with the State of Washington’s Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Deferred compensation plans are available. The City pays 95% of medical and vision premiums and 100% of dental insurance premiums. The employees’ portion is 5% or $75.68 per month for full-family medical, vision and dental insurance coverage. Additionally, the City contributes to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA VEBA) that can be used for out-of-pocket health expenses. There is a $30,000 life insurance policy paid for by the City. The City also contributes to a Teamsters Retiree Medical Plan. Hours: The position is full-time, non-exempt, (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm and hours may vary.
