WESTFIELD, NJ — The "Be the Light" initiative to combat local hunger in the Westfield area is continuing through Dec. 19. It kicked off two weeks ago with a series of events, including a live virtual concert by Westfield resident John Rzeznik, the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls. The initiative is run by the Westfield United Fund, which works with more than a dozen area agencies on issues ranging from food insecurity to kids who need extra homework help. Some of these agencies include: Mobile Meals of Westfield, ARC of Union County, Community Access Unlimited, Moms Helping Moms, Furniture Assist, Caring Contact, the Westfield Area Y, CASA of Union County, Imagine, Central Jersey Legal Services, YWCA Union County, Literacy New Jersey, and many more. The page for the initiative describes how the "Be the Light" holiday initiative and Westfield United have helped combat hunger, homelessness, and much more.
