Free blues? Modal blues improv?

I'm not sure what to call it. Guitar/loops/noise guitarist whose been listening to a fair amount of Sonny Sharrock/No Exit as well as a lot of old blues (RL Burnside, John Lee Hooker, Hound Dog Taylor, etc) lately is looking to branch out a little bit. I'd be thrilled to find a drummer and someone who plays in a lower register (bass? synth? piano? tuba?) - maybe even the right vocalist - to play some fucked up modal blues. Really looking for people who can listen, move, and respond together as a unit. I have a nice studio with a pretty nice recording setup.
