Description
The Transit Facilities Custodian performs janitorial duties, general labor, and the non-technical and minor maintenance, repairs, and inspections required for the maintenance and cleanliness of NCTD facilities. Distinguishing Characteristics The Transit Facilities Custodian is an entry level position for the Facility Maintenance Department and performs a specialized function in the maintenance and cleanliness of District facilities. Supervision Received and Exercised The Transit Facilities Custodian works under the immediate supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and Facility Maintenance Leads. Working Conditions This position is required to work in all types of settings including outdoors. The classification also works with various machinery and chemicals. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Essential Functions Cleaning, physical labor, and minor maintenance of facilities and equipment. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Office, industrial, and public transit center cleaning duties in accordance with the Bombardier Cleaning Plan and cleaning industry standards for each facility, including but not limited to the following: janitorial duties, sweeping and scrubbing concrete and asphalt, all types of floor care, pressure washing, window cleaning, etc. Performs general labor including, but not limited to the following: moves and/or arranges furniture and equipment; loads and unloads supplies onto or from trucks; breaking and removing concrete, Installing and removing bus stop poles and signs, digging, etc. Completes elementary, non-technical repairs and installations to buildings and fixtures including, but not limited to the following: replaces lamps; hangs pictures and fixtures, touch up and minor painting, removes graffiti, performs non-technical PM’s and inspections, takes routine care of custodial equipment and materials; installs, moves, and repairs bus stop signs; reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Requirements Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques; ability to read and understand material and equipment instructions to ensure safe and correct use; ability to read and understand department memorandums, equipment user manuals, and signs in the work environment and respond accordingly; ability to respond to written and oral instructions in English; ability to legibly complete forms or logs using English sentences or phrases; ability to work effectively with others; ability to learn and follow a specified routine for cleaning buildings, facilities and grounds; ability to use the proper materials and tools for maintenance and minor repair of buildings, facilities and grounds. Physical Requirements Ability to operate vehicles, tools and equipment necessary to complete assignments; ability to lift, push & pull 50 Lbs., reach, stoop, crawl, and climb on a frequent basis. Ability to move in and around wet floors, roof tops and other difficult work locations. Experience/Education/Certificates/License Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to pass forklift driver training program and drive and maneuver a trailer. Machines/Tools/Equipment Operate a motor vehicle (i.e., sedan, pickup truck, and 1½ ton stake truck) and forklift safely; operate hand and power tools, construction equipment, and maintenance equipment; operate motorized cleaning equipment and tools including buffers, sweepers, blowers, pressure washers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
