WHEATON, MD — Montgomery County police are asking the public's help in identifying two women they say assaulted a Westfield Wheaton Mall employee after not paying for a newly fixed cellphone. Police released surveillance footage on Wednesday. Around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2019, police were called to the mall on a report of the assault and theft. Police say the two women went to the Smart Fix kiosk to have a cellphone screen repaired. When the employee finished the repair, one of the suspects asked for the phone to see if it worked. The pair then ran away without paying, police say. The employee chased after them and confronted them. One of the suspects swung a knife at him and told him to back away, police say. The pair then ran out of the mall. Anybody with information is asked to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case. See surveillance footage from the assault below:
