The Medical Advisory Group of Lynchburg - May 2022
TOPIC: Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO's) - What are they and why does my practice need to be a part of (the right) one?
SPEAKER: Dr. Chheany Ung, M.D., Virginia Interventional Pain & Spine Center
What's It All About?
Vendors and members join GPO's in order to have access to practices to sell their products to and buy products/services at potentially discounted prices, respectively. Distributor reps, who are incentivized by the amount and type of sales, typically connect practices to a GPO in order to gain access to a product the practice wants to purchase.
Many practices aren’t aware they are a member of one or even how the system works. We will explain the basics of GPOs and if done correctly can save money for healthcare providers by reducing overhead costs, and why it’s important to know which one you are a member of.
