MUM Receives Emergency Grant from Griswold Home Care

Aspen Hill-Wheaton, MD - July 7, 2020 – The Mid-County United Ministries (MUM) Mobile Pantry is a lifeline for vulnerable seniors. That’s why Griswold Home Care of Wheaton-Aspen Hill awarded it a Griswold Gives COVID-19 Emergency Relief grant. Now, more seniors will have access to perishable food including produce, dairy, chicken and eggs The donation was made possible through the Jean Griswold Foundation’s Griswold Gives COVID-19 Emergency Relief Program on behalf of Griswold Home Care of Wheaton-Aspen Hill Director Mirza Donegan. “Griswold Home Care has supported MUM for many years and we are pleased to know that our grant will help feed frail and elderly members of the community,” Donegan said. “In this moment of national crisis, it is important to support resiliency efforts from nonprofits." Griswold Home Care Director Mirza Donegan presents a donation to Mid-County United Ministries Board of Directors Vice President Derrick Owens.According to officials at MUM, in March of this year, demand for food grew 30 percent due to COVID-19 and the challenges that have arisen during the Pandemic. Its Mobile Pantry, which was launched in 2017, provides food in specific locations on a rotating basis in the Silver Spring, Wheaton and Aspen Hill areas. Initiated in 2019, Griswold Gives is an annual grant program that enables Griswold Home Care franchise directors to give back to their communities by awarding a number of grants to local nonprofits of their choice. This year, the Jean Griswold Foundation activated the program early and updated its title to, Griswold Gives COVID-19 Emergency Relief Program, to assist with food insecurity during the ongoing Pandemic. The Jean Griswold Foundation is a private charity established by Griswold Home Care to further the company’s belief that care for the elderly and disabled should be available to all. Each donation is used to strengthen its mission to support programs and services that allow seniors to age in place.
