Part of the 2022 Sound Mind Music Festival, this event series explores critical mental health topics through conversation and performance. Join Sound Mind for a special evening of performance and conversation addressing mental health among three unique groups: the LGBTQ+ Community, Communities of Color and the Music Industry. Together, this night will address some of the critical challenges facing these unique yet overlapping communities while advocating for new systems of cares, services and support. Register for admission to the entire evening here. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Performances and panels start at 6 PM. This event is presented as part of the 2022 Sound Mind Music Festival. Mental Health in the LGBTQ+ CommunityOur country has begun to awaken to the longstanding effects of bigotry, including the effects on mental health. This panel will explore how we as a community can ensure the LGBTQ+ community not only have access to mental health support, but are also prepared to advocate for their own unique experiences tied to mental health. The panel will present multiple viewpoints representing the mental health experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as explore pathways and resources toward healing and support. Beyond financial strain, cancelled tours and recordings have led to additional emotional strain. The challenge of mental health for the music community, however, is not a new one. 73% of independent artists report symptoms of anxiety or depression, and the industry that supports them struggles with an ecosystem of mental health challenges as well. This panel will explore how the music community can improve this mental health ecosystem and culture. The panel will present multiple viewpoints representing the mental health experiences of this community, as well as explore pathways and resources toward healing and support.
